A Fresh Edition

advice - thoughtSupporting the quest for the truth in Ufology

Fifteen years into the new millennium and, objectively, we’re still no closer to getting along with each other. It is still hard to tell the truth about human-centric agendas and relationships, let  alone extraterrestrial encounters. What would possibly cause us to think we’d be able to embrace, let alone accept, open contact with races from places beyond our solar system?

Conspiratorialists would have you believe there are government cover-ups and military coups just waiting to pounce on the unsuspecting public. Others would have you believe that there are no threats from space, only our fellow humans are suspect. Information toward both perspectives is available and even prolific on the Net, but who’s vetting it?

Claims, confabulations and critical thinking are caught in a swirl of slippery slopes. How are we to know the truth? Is there something, some trick of the trade of discerning truth, that allows us to filter the information with some sense made common? Some say sensitivity to frequencies or vibrations may do just that, but we’re bombarded with stimuli that often produces a sensory overload.

If we just step back and look at all the social media postings about this, that or the other… can we determine the agenda of the poster? Is it just some arbitrary information that someone has come across and needs to feel like they are contributing, so they post it without comment or concern? What kinds of posts seem to draw out comments? Are the comments thoughtful responses or just truncated tidbits?

Communication is key in building any kind of community. It is even more important in ufology and tangential topic areas. Common understanding and common knowledge are often two vastly different perspectives. Even more critical and necessary a question: What are the real agendas of those who’ve become the ‘authorities’ or ‘personalities’ within the overall community?

Are we still facing the masks of the ego, or is there emerging hope for wego? After all, doesn’t the community build the future and evolve based on how well we all get along? That seems to be the message that filters down through the various sources who claim contact and are confident their experiences are not warped by belief systems or other psychological manipulations.

Have you noticed an emerging understanding that Ufology is less about phenomena and more about awareness or even consciousness? What are your considerations regarding the need for further research and study of the ‘phenomena’ as an external event-driven experience? What are your considerations regarding the need for further research and study of personal or internally-driven experience as part of the ‘phenomena’ today?

There seems to be plenty of stories about malevolent activity, but no proof to back them up. There are also many other stories of just the opposite and often no proof to back them up either. The reality is we’ve got plenty of video of various types of encounters and none of them show any malevolent activity. We know that throughout human history, populations have been manipulated through fear and mistrust.

Perhaps is we looked at the ‘phenomena’ with new eyes, free of presumption or postulation, and asked some basic questions there might be some sense made common that emerges. There have been a number of researchers over the decades since Roswell who’ve attempted to ask better questions. The stories of encounters or experiencers are tainted with deep-seated belief systems and perspectives skewed by varying degrees of intelligence and/or understanding.

Are we indeed planetary or galactic citizens? Are we human-centric or inclined to engage universal understanding through means beyond human? What does it really mean to be human? Is there a consciousness beyond the mind/body/spirit/soul complex? What might our evolutionary path look like as a human-centric civilization?

What might it look like from an expanded view, considering other worlds of form and/or consciousness? What might form, fit and function have to do with our reality? We have far more questions than answers currently. We have the ability to have conversations, too. Perhaps that is the next step – minimize the talking heads and incorporate or initiate facilitated discussions.

The latter is an enigma, often riddled with folks just wanting to tell their stories. Experiencer groups often challenge the facilitator to manage the conversations and minimize the pontification of those with self-serving agendas. They also need to be able to recognize when others have valuable understanding and wisdom to share. Groups of any size are always a challenge, no matter the topic. Communication protocols and procedures need to be in place for a community to develop effectively and have lasting results.

2015 IUFOC – from a patron

A moment in time…

Many years ago the gentleman on the far left in photo, Jim Dilettoso, along with Ret. Col. Wendelle Stevens (RIP) organized the first International UFO Congress in Tucson, AZ. I was quite fortunate to have been able to be there, arriving in a limousine owned by a mutual friend, Roy Haddix (RIP), along with the future mother of Jim’s awesome daughter.. now a teenager. Some really amazing things have happened over the years.

The event today brings people from all over the world. Mine is a personal experience of connecting with others and sharing what we’ve found in our personal direct experiences and relationships forged from internal and external perspectives, something that is not particularly shared on stage by the presenters. Most of that information is perhaps more linear and, quite honestly, polarized in one perspective or another. Below is a series of interviews I did at an event in Sedona in 1992, which includes Jim Dilettoso and others. It’s a veritable synopsis of what is and has been going on for decades.

This year was probably the most profound shift I’ve noticed in the willingness of people to share openly, mostly patrons rather than actual presenters. The shift has been in their ability to question and the willingness to see things from an inner perspective, free of polarization. This demonstrates the growth in awareness and consciousness among the collective of experiencers. The morning and evening gatherings of experiencers in a facilitated session by Yvonne Smith brought out the fact that many are still grappling with the intense juxtaposition of fear and freedom in experiencing non-linear and non-local events of their own.

Rey-Zen-Rich

Rey Hernandez, Rev Zen, Richard Dolan

There is a new organization called FREE (Foundation for Research of Extraterrestrial Encounters) that has taken the environment to a new level of investigation. Rey Hernandez and I shared a table during the event and got to know each other well, another unexpected joy for me particularly. FREE’s work, began by folks like John Mack (RIP) some years ago, is bring an opportunity for contactees to share their experiences and study the commonality. Academic studies of the phenomena of long been plagued by the reluctance of the scientific community to explore.

Today, the work of FREE is forging a new path in the acceptance and corroboration of a common theme in the awareness of experiencers, that of a congruent understanding of the helpfulness garnered toward the actualization of an openness toward our Star Families, revealing the potential of many who have found their lives to be integrated with a massive movement toward evolving consciousness. Dr. Edgar Mitchell and Dr. Rudy Schild are co-founders of FREE. Dr. Mitchell and I had conversations about this possibility when we met at the Prophets Conference in Phoenix in 1997.

Travis-ZenThe common perception among nearly all the folks I was able to meet and speak with for any length of time over the 5-day event was that we are learning how to move beyond our internal fears prompted by the induction of various philosophies and religions, Travis’ recent shift is one of the most notable. Of course there are those who still seek to polarize the public for personal and profitable reasons. The great thing is that the discussion of personal discernment is growing and the suspension of old, worn out belief systems is occurring throughout this environment. Some folks are still gullible and want to believe what they are hearing from these proponents of polarity. Indeed the conduit is closing, though, as the seekers of truth are reflecting their awareness more openly.

Perhaps there is a desire for harmony among people and planet, promoted by the majority of contactees, that is encouraging those who’ve felt like they were ‘abducted’ to look at their experience from a larger view, one of an expanded consciousness that is being offered by our extraterrestrial neighbors. The natural process of chaos to order is certainly being recognized.

Convincing UFO Response

advice - thoughtContinuing the Convincing of UFOs

… a convincing response to Dr. Joeseph Burkes

Ah, the photo from the first IUFOC poster back in 1991. It was a grand event in Tucson, a collaboration initiated by Retired Col. Wendelle Stevens, Bob Brown and Bob Dean (I think)… with a little help from Ted Loman and Jim Dilletoso. Riding down from Phoenix was the first time I’d ever been in a limousine, courtesy of Roy Haddix who was a long-time friend of Jim’s. These guys were investigators and thinkers, hoping to share their passion and purpose – disclosure and exposure of VIPs (Veritable Intelligence Patterns) and UFOs to the public.

I agree with you about the blinds coming down and the glossy eyes, Joseph, but for different reasons. The subject material, after the initial fascination wears off, causes one to have to think deeply about their belief systems, concepts of reality and personal relationships in the world. Thinking deeply is not a comfortable place and many, if not most, run from the invitation. I’ve even seen it in classrooms where I’ve challenged students to think deeper by applying the Socratic method.

People tend to want to be told how, what and who to do with no accountability and responsibility for their own thinking or acting. Their eyes are dull, their minds are chaotic and their capacity for intelligent conversation is challenged. The shades are drawn and nobody is home. The deer in the headlights is only moved by the deflection of pointed questions and the inability to say, “I don’t know,” without having to defend some position. The wise are doubters, willing to put their truth on the chopping block at any given moment.

It appears that even those deeply invested in the ufology field also have that limitation at certain points where their previous concepts and/or professions of understanding are threatened. They can quite confidently go up to the edge of the cliff, only to run back to the comfort of the past prejudicial and psychological denials when threaten with new information. These actions are most often toward experiencers who present possibilities that cause them to consider what one might call quantum concepts within the mental frameworks of established ufological authority.

Now the past attempts at communicating concepts through ‘contactee’ interviews, statements and writings have often fallen short of the articulation and tone of believability. Scott Mendelker’s work is an example. The interviewers of contactees presented nearly a ‘lost in space’ perception due to the style and words used in their individual articulations. Striving to be considerate of the audience and presenting information so that it is palatable as well as understandable is something authors don’t always consider.

Perhaps because of that early miscommunication, so many contactees are frustrated with the lack of attention paid to the ‘real’ things that are going on above and beyond the standard ufology-focused consideration and events. We’ve moved on from phenomena, sightings and even in some cases the need for disclosure. There has been very little attention paid to experiencers. It’s a subject that has still not garnered the deserved attention it needs, withholding what I think you’ll agree is pertinent information necessary for our beneficial and effective personal and planetary evolution.

Grant’s recognition of the cycles of patterns in ufological behavior appear to be leading to an even greater awareness of not only interactions, but a kind of bio-spiritual evolutionary process that may indeed include those who have been introduced to the population as ‘hybrids’ of sorts. They [hybrids] appear to have little knowledge of who they are until the natural cycles of maturity and the internal questions of connection and service begin to surface. If you were one of them, who would you turn to for help in understanding what was happening?

It’s no longer just ‘wonders in the sky’… it’s here and now, right in front of us. How we will negotiate with that potential or ‘truth’ is yet to be seen. FREE has begun that process with their surveys and promotion of a new focus on experiencers’ encounters and collective information. The new sciences, both material and psycho-spiritual, are soon to advance our planet as many of us believe possible, toward harmony among people and planet with the open interaction with our interstellar relatives. That’s what I’m hoping for anyway.

Thanks for your vigilance, Joe and especially to Rey Hernandez and Dr. Edgar Mitchell for continuing to move forward with consideration and mindfulness.

Convincing People about UFOs?

ufo congress 1991WHAT WILL IT TAKE TO CONVINCE PEOPLE THAT UFOs ARE IMPORTANT?

Joseph Burkes MD 2014

UFO historian Richard Dolan has described the initial reaction of many people to his passionate interest in the subject. They express interest, might even describe something they saw on TV concerning the phenomenon and then after a few minutes of his well informed explanation, their eyes gloss over and they are clearly bored. What about convincing people about UFOs?

THE ROLE OF AUTHORITY FIGURES

Yes opinion polls indicate the public is interested in UFOs, advertising executives have long known this, but the fascination is for most part quite superficial. Why is this? I suspect partly because of the massive denial of authority figures that say, “there is nothing to it.”

After all, the world is so complex; we rely on authorities to put to use vast amounts of data to make what we hope are reasonable decisions. Most people have little understanding of the technological “miracles” that science has achieved, but they are grateful and trust the devices, like planes, autos and computers to work reliably.

Needing to trust leaders I suspect might be built into our biology. For a million years before civilization was established, hunter-gatherers worked in small groups to survive. Leadership was a question of life and death and those clans that had the best leaders, the shamen and sha-women that knew how best to kill the animals or find the healing herbs and deliver the babies, played a critical role in survival. So we the people have a strong tendency to be,”we the sheeple.”

LINKING UFOs TO SOLUTIONS FOR MAJOR PROBLEMS

For the UFO question to take on special importance in the popular imagination it will need to be transformed from an entertaining diversion and become a way of addressing the seemingly insurmountable problems our planet is facing. This is already being attempted by those within the UFO community that discuss the possibility of downloading into our technological culture the secrets of the energy propulsion systems of flying saucers. So-called “free energy” in one fell swoop could eliminate poverty and pollution, thus possibly reversing global warming and ending world hunger.

Of course in order for the so-called ET’s to give us such devices they might understandably insist on a peaceful transformation of our planet to replace what UFOlogist Stanton Friedman has called our perpetual state of “tribal warfare.” This is going to be a hard sell when the mass media and academia in service to their corporate masters repeatedly insist, “There is nothing to it.”

HE WHO PAYS THE PIPER CALLS THE TUNE

From the control groups’ point of view, those of the clandestine forces determined to keep a lid on the UFO issue, an important strategy would be to recruit authority figures to block any significant discussion of flying saucers. Opinion makers who step out of line find that their access to funding cut off. This is all done behind the scenes and is quite effective in my opinion.

In the USA the National Academy of Sciences has made it perfectly clear that UFO studies are not part of the “legitimate” agenda for professional science. Scientists that step out of line will find themselves unable to secure grants thus ending their careers.

In broadcast journalism, talk show hosts that might attempt to inform the public in a detailed way, would find themselves without corporate sponsors. The major newspapers are controlled through their editorial boards that in turn are dependent on corporate sponsors to continue publishing.

This analysis is not a conspiracy theory. I describe the way power works. In the former Soviet Union it was the political dictatorship of the Communist Party that attempted to regulate almost every aspect of people’s lives. That social experiment failed miserably. In the West however social control is far more sophisticated, decentralized and uses the knowledge of social psychology called “public relations” to effectively manipulate the masses.

RESISTANCE TO CHANGE ALSO COMES FROM WITHIN

On the individual level our tendency to identify with our thoughts leads to a profound attachments to old ideas. This resistance to changing one’s point of view flows from the ego itself. People strive to maintain their religion, political ideology, or moral customs to the point where some would even are kill to maintain them. Just look at the present situation in Syria, or at the millions killed centuries ago during the Protestant Reformation in Europe.

So what will it take to change mass public opinion on the flying saucer question? Well mostly it depends on what UFO intelligence chooses to do. If “they” continue the present pattern of interactions, millions of individual sightings yearly, interspersed with occasional massive waves, I imagine that there will be opportunities to slowly build public awareness by a responsible program of education.

RESPONSIBLE PROGRAM OF PUBLIC EDUCATION

This will require UFO enthusiasts to discipline the crazies in our midst, think creatively and most importantly of all build stable, well-financed organizations to carry out the work. All this will need to be done in the face of a powerful opposition of groups that has great experience in controlling public opinion, the economy and their political operatives who run governments.

“TURNING PAGES IN A PLAY BOOK

Can we trust UFO intelligence to follow what we imagine is their existing “game plan?” I suppose not. After all we should never assume that we can think like the so-called “aliens.” The ever-changing pattern of interactions as pointed out by UFO researcher Grant Cameron appears to be as if they are turning the pages of a “play book” with Men in Black in the 1960s, so called “abductions” in the 70s, crop circles in the 80s and continued mental interactions with millions of experiencers many of whom are instilled with a sense of mission and are striving to convince their fellow Earthlings that we should look up and accept what our “lying eyes” are seeing.

My guess is that UFO intelligence will present us with infinitely creative new ways of waking us up from our collective stupor concerning their “wonders in the sky.” I am of the opinion that their presence is non-harmful and very likely to be beneficial to mankind. Bringing others to this hopeful perspective I imagine is a challenge that UFO activists will continue to face for some time.

Promo Description: A Native American Veteran, burdened by survivor’s guilt after a disastrous military tour, is forced to search for his missing grandfather after his ancestral land is mysteriously taken over by an unknown federal organization.

The movie had its World Debut at the Gila River Wild Horse Pass Casino in the Ovations Room just last night. The director, Travis Holt Hamilton, and most of the cast were on hand for the event. I spoke with Travis briefly beforehand and his unpretentious demeanor was refreshing. He is a hard-working and dedicated professional who decided to explore something few have done, combining a respect for indigenous ways while exploring a topic that is as confusing as it is rife with disinformation today.

The movie itself was well written and directed; the production staff should be proud of such anLegends accomplishment as well. There were only minor drags in the dialog from time to time. Seriously, though, how do you really bridge the worlds of experiencers and ‘normal’ folk in any culture? Have you ever tried to write a movie script or screenplay. It is certainly not easy. Travis and Jose Silerio deserve some great respect for venturing into the Ufology territory, let alone wrapping it into a Native American culture and landscape.

I’d highly recommend checking out this film and let your imagination run as to how it relates to the current them in this century and the role the indigenous folk play in it. Perhaps there are some symbols and people who represent them that are ready to appear. Who knows, Travis may take this film to another level in a sequel that takes one deeper into Native culture with a little sci-fi spin. This film would certainly lend itself to another venture. The screening schedule is below the trailer that is resident on YouTube that follows.

Maybe we can encourage Travis to take another step toward Native culture and include the Hopi in his next film. There is a well-known rock formation that they call the ‘landing place’ where thousands of ancient petroglyphs line the rock face just outside the area. They, too, have their legends of ‘star people’ that are worth investigating further. If you ever want to go there yourself, reach out to the curator. You’ll need a referral to get a Hopi guide to take you there. Outsiders aren’t welcome without one.
