MECHANISMS OF CONTACT, “PRIME CONTACTEES “

MECHANISMS OF CONTACT, “PRIME CONTACTEES “

Introduction

When I first described this type of UFO experiencer in May of 2014, I was surprised to see a controversy result. My description of the so-called “prime contactees” was labeled by some as “elitist.” I was accused of trying to create a popularity contest in which ordinary contactees’ role would be seen as insignificant next to the “supreme status” of the so-called “primes.” Fellow senior contact activists angrily informed me that I was being “divisive.”

Well I certainly didn’t intend to trigger such a controversy. Responding to those offended I wrote a second article with the title “Prime Contactees Are Just the Tip of the Iceberg.” The original controversial blog in an edited form is presented as Part 1 below.

As part of this introduction I should point out that the term “contactee” is in many ways outdated. The “ee” ending suggests a passive role in English, as in “employee” or “payee.” The “er” or “or” endings suggest a more active role as in “worker, soldier, mentor.”

For those who have joined a contact team, or have carried out contact protocols on their own, reaching out to the intelligence behind the UFO phenomenon can involve much mental, physical and most importantly spiritual work. Thus in my view the designation “contact worker” is superior to “contactee.”

In addition contactees historically have focused on the bizarre and often mystifying nature of their contact experiences. In a sense their personal encounters have been the message. This was a fairly constant feature of the UFO clubs during the 1950s that had thousands of members and celebrated the alleged encounters of contactee subculture celebrities like George Adamski and others.

“Contact workers” I imagine in contrast to “contactees” envision their ongoing encounters as part of a worldwide transformation of consciousness that links the flying saucer phenomenon with necessary solutions to the seemingly insurmountable problems that humanity is facing. I am referring to the scourges of war, hunger, racism, and global climate change. So for those of us who are part of what I like to call “The Contact Underground” let’s drop the term “contactee.” Since we are doing a lot of work on this issue, another alternative could be “contact workers.” If this sounds to “old left” the alternative “contact activists” will do just fine as well.

WHO ARE THE PRIME CONTACTEES AND WHY ARE THEY IMPORTANT?

And the potential for creating a new kind of social movement.
Joseph Burkes MD 2015

As the UFO truth movement grows and increasing numbers of young people are excited about the possibilities of encountering intelligent life in the cosmos, the special role of a very select group of UFO experiencers should be examined. In the early 1990s I became an organizer for a number of contact groups. Since then I have observed a small number of remarkable individuals who more or less match the criteria for being what I have termed “prime contactees.”

A “prime contactee” is a UFO experiencer that has some of the following characteristics,

1. Apparent contact with UFO intelligence from childhood or as a young adult that involves special training in consciousness-based communication and the concomitant development of other advanced psychic abilities. This often involves meditation practice as a youth and is typically initiated without any apparent parental or other adult supervision.

2. Repeated sightings of UFOs when other people are present to verify that the “primes” can share their ongoing contact experiences with others.

3. A sense of “mission” involving informing the public of the importance of contact, or playing a supporting role for other contactees who are educating society on this topic. Forming new contact groups or joining existing networks is another manifestation of activities derived from a sense of having a personal mission.

4. In the most advanced “primes,” perhaps people like Dr Steven Greer or the man that I call “Misha” in my reports, they are likely having ongoing mental communication with UFO intelligence. This might even include direct telepathic communication (voice in the head) with the intelligence responsible for flying saucers.

5.This last feature is particularly risky for primes. If the larger society learns of such capabilities, those individuals will be mistakenly labeled as a “kooks” and be subjected to intense ridicule. Their sanity will almost certainly be questioned and forced psychiatric evaluations could also result.

6.More importantly if the primes’ special link to an extraterrestrial intelligence becomes known by the control groups, (those powerful clandestine forces attempting to keep a lid on the UFO situation), in my opinion at a minimum the primes will be subjected to intense surveillance.

HOW THE CONTROL GROUPS OPERATE AGAINST THE CONTACT NETWORK

In my opinion there is a high probability that private contractors working for the control groups are being recruited from government intelligence services to monitor and even harass high-level contactees. Thus these servants of the status quo probably see the primes as “enemy agents of influence” working for what I like to call “a higher intelligence agency.”

In some very unpleasant instances prime contactees have even been attacked by what might be called “psychotronic” technology. I personally learned of the effects of such attacks on contact activists when I was closely associated with Dr Greer’s Center for the Study of Extraterrestrial Intelligence during the years 1992 to 1998.

Under certain circumstances the control groups in a less confrontational mode might even attempt to co-op primes with offers of money and access to privileged information available only to “insiders.” This kind of co-opting effort reportedly happened to Dr Greer while attending a UFO conference in the spring of 1992. He shared this information with the CE-5 Initiative Working Group Coordinators, including me, Shari Adamiak and Wayne Peterson. Alas these last two prominent contact workers are now deceased.

Indeed the passing of many of the first generation of North American contact activists is one of the reasons why I am initiating this “The Contact Network History Project.” My hope is to share these narratives with the current and future generations of contact workers. Jeff Becker’s anthology “Paths to Contact” of which I am one of many co-authors has a similar goal. I recommend it to all members of the network.

THE PERILS OF BEING A PRIME

To be a prime contactee I imagine is a heavy cross to bear. If the special relationship with non-human intelligence is made public, critics will likely deem primes “insane.” On the other hand once their extraordinary ability to attract UFOs is established within the flying saucer subculture, the primes are often turned into celebrities. They are treated as if they are special (which they are in many ways) but unfortunately some may start believing that they are better than everyone else (which they are not!)

So the contact network may need to protect prime contactees, not only from a doubting larger society in which mainstream media will make fun of them, and from the control groups that may try to “neutralize” them, but strangely enough contact activists may need to protect the primes from themselves as well, from an egoism which is reinforced by people’s tendency to engage in hero worship.

THE DANGERS OF EGO -BASED CONFLICTS

This last point is apropos to what I believe happened to the Peruvian based Rama contact group back in the 1990s. Rumors of plagiarism and the use of donations to fund what was characterized as affluent life styles, appears to have played a major role in causing that once vibrant group to implode. According my sources within ranks of this very important organization their numbers were decimated. In fighting among the leadership resulted in much disappointment that turned into bitterness.

Uncontrolled adulation in susceptible individuals might “turn” prime contactees from the altruistic path of serving a nascent “contact movement” to the more selfish position of insisting that their supporters should service them! I am referring to the tendency of contact groups to take on aspects of cults.

“Servicing” the primes might involve giving them large amounts of money, often under questionable circumstances, the granting of sexual favors and in general satisfying their personal needs to feel important and to be the center of attention.

From decades of social cause activism during the 1960s through 80s, I learned that in order for radical reform campaigns to succeed they need to fire up the enthusiasm of the grass roots and not focus on the many strengths while ignoring the weakness of those leading them.

THE BIG PICTURE

This analysis is offered within the hopeful framework that a benevolent and technologically advanced ET civilization is at this moment interacting with humanity. My hope is that their presence will inspire us to create an Earth civilization based on peace, cooperation and social/economic justice. I believe this is true because such ethical advancements, including the forever banning all war, is in my judgment a precondition for any alien culture to travel across the sea of stars.

In the absence of such radical cultural advancements in an ET civilization, the powerful energy systems required for interplanetary and/or inter-dimensional travel would be applied to create weapons so powerful that their evitable use would destroy the very civilization that created them, thus preventing them from getting very far out into space beyond their star system of origin.

THE BENEFITS AND RISKS OF ADVANCED ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES.

Currently there is much speculation about the possibility that if the advanced propulsion systems that allow flying saucers to operate were downloaded into our technological culture, then tremendous benefits would accrue. If advanced technologies were used for peaceful purposes, then global warming, environmental pollution and even world poverty and hunger might be eliminated.

In the short term our achieving this kind of sweeping political and economic transformation is a big “if.” For such dramatic events to happen, the control groups’ campaign labeled the “UFO truth embargo” in my judgment would have to be self-curtailed or overcome by a stronger force. Such a force I imagine could very well be a skillfully organized and adequately funded future “contact movement.” This would by necessity involve not hundreds of activists worldwide, (my estimate of our current strength) but rather require millions of dedicated participants.

In addition negotiations with the so-called “ETs” to obtain their technology would likely only occur under conditions of world peace. This would be necessary to ensure that advanced technologies would not be used militarily against the alleged “aliens” as well as these technologies being used against ourselves.

THE FUTURE OF THE CONTACT MOVEMENT

This long-term plan to create a contact movement will require the participation of countless activists. As the ranks of contact workers increase, as it appears to be happening now, then I imagine that the importance of those that I call prime contactees will likely decrease.

Creating a new kind of social movement linking UFOs to solutions for the major problems confronting mankind is indeed a very ambitious project. Critics will likely say, “It’s an impossible dream.” My reply is that we will either evolve as a race of intelligent beings or we will destroy our civilization by war and man made environmental catastrophes.

If creating a bright peaceful future both here on Earth and in the cosmos is called “impossible” by the so-called “authorities,” then I have but one thing to say to contact activists, “Be realists: demand the impossible!”

New Hope with The UFO Disclosure Advocates

UFO Disclosure Advocates Make Strongest Closing Argument Yet!

Monday, May 8th, 2017 at 9 pm EDT, EPIC Voyages Radio’s resident Medical Doctor, Dr. Joseph Burkes M.D. leads a discussion with Disclosure Advocates Dr. Lisa Galarneau and Russ Calka about the government actors who actively play a role in misdirecting the public about the existence of extraterrestrial life and the black projects assigned to studying the UFO phenomenon. Unfortunately the website has been rebuilt and the file isn’t available now. (2021)

LISA GALARNEAU

Lisa Galarneau is She considers herself a socio-cultural anthropologist, futurist, US Army veteran, and experiencer since childhood, Lisa is committed to illuminating the truth about our extraterrestrial and extradimensional visitors as well as challenging the truth embargo.

Her employment background includes stints in cryptology, telegram singing, and commercial anthropology, which she currently works in today. When earning her PhD, Lisa studied the anthropology of online gamers, traveling to thirteen different countries to study behaviors in different environments.

We Believe Disclosure Is The Key Issue Of Our Time

“I have always taken it for granted that contact with extraterrestrial life is looming on the horizon for humanity. As an optimist, I tend to see this as something that would be full of possibility, and indeed the very thing we need as a society in these perilous times, rather than something to fear. “- Dr. Lisa Galarneau

RUSS CALKA

Russ has been fascinated by the UFO topic since childhood and is an impassioned leader in the Disclosure movement. Previously an active member of the Disclosure Lobby, Russ has now taken the reins for the U.S.- based Disclosure effort.

Disclosure Will Advance Our Development

“Convinced by overwhelming evidence of an extraterrestrial intelligence engaging the human race since 10 years old, I have come to the final conclusion that the ONLY thing that will save this planet from self-destruction and and allow the Human species to advance our development amongst the stars is the formal acknowledgment of an Extraterrestrial presence. It’s called #Disclosure. It’s the law. It’s desperately needed.” – Russell Calka

The Disclosure Activists Manifesto (of course there is one)

We know without a doubt that our planet is being engaged by offworld civilizations that are extraterrestrial or extradimensional in nature. As an activist group, we are committed to uniting various research groups and organizations in order to get this story out to mainstream audiences.

We stand for the following:

  1. We do not support any truth embargo enforced by government, press and media, nor the scientific establishment. We know that vast amounts of evidence are routinely ignored or covered up by these organizations.
  2. We do not believe that there have been efforts to contact offworld civilizations (i.e. SETI) that have yielded no results. We do not accept that our space agencies, like NASA, are ignorant of these encounters with off-world civilizations.
  3. We do not accept arguments suggesting there is no proof of this activity nor do we accept ridicule or stigma when discussing these serious topics.
  4. We are convinced that our planet and civilizations have been engaged by offworld civilizations for millennia. We accept the extraterrestrial hypothesis as valid in many cases and while we consider terrestrial explanations for all things, we do not privilege terrestrial hypotheses only.
  5. We know that a variety of governments, militaries, and other organizations have had contact experiences that they have kept veiled in secrecy. We know that there have been recent efforts by government agencies (like the CIA),whistleblowers, and leaks to disclose the offworld presence, but as of yet, no world authority has given confirmation. This must change.
  6. We understand that our offworld visitors hail from numerous star systems and races and that our contact experiences with these others have been both negative and extremely positive. We know that Disclosure of the offworld intelligences engaging our planet and civilization could mean a quantum leap forward for humanity. This is both possible and desirable.
  7. We are aware that there are numerous unacknowledged and suppressed technologies that have been revealed by these interactions with offworld visitors and we know that some (e.g. free energy) could greatly benefit humanity.
  8. We attest that government truth and transparency are critical to the success of any democracy, and we have a right to know the truth about our offworld visitors. We believe that citizen resistance and effort are critical at this time in our evolution and a critical part of consciousness improvements to our species. – http://www.disclosureactivists.org/

The State of UFO Investigations Today

What do you think about the state of Ufology today?

Does it meet up to your expectations? Sadly, it falls short for nearly every serious investigator. It falls even shorter for experiencers who wish the topics of discussion to be more focused on real interactions.

What has happened to what once seemed to be a burgeoning field of study for and with folks who’ve had some kind of experience or at least witnessed what has often been termed ‘UFOs’?

Some years ago, in a presentation in England, Bob Dean spoke of the fact that ‘they’ are no longer ‘UFOs’ because we know what they are… visitors in various types of interstellar and perhaps interdimensional craft. Paul Hellyer, retired Canadian Defense Minister, speaks openly about his knowledge from his prior position and current relationships.

Banal Banter

So many today banter about the past; opinions and research that have been so trampled they have lost their appeal to serious folks. You might be one of them. Unfortunately, the attraction to the curious has helped to develop an industry that supports speculators and storytellers as much as real information sharing. In the thirty plus years the author has been involved there have been at least three cycles of activity. Stephen Bassett does his best to keep it real as he continues to lobby for disclosure, but is he involved because it is a lifestyle, passion, or a way to earn a living and travel? Dr. Steven Greer continues to speak about his contact techniques and the familiar message he admits to receiving as well, but is he legit or just playing the crowd?

Each cycle starts with some real information, a new breakthrough or personage that suddenly decides to share their story. Then the attention gets distracted to old information that’s rehashed and then on to some sci-fi encounter that has something to do with a conspiracy. Whether it is a government coverup of interaction with aliens or a secret space program, the process repeats about every 10 to 12 years with new people. We’re due for a new spin. We all oppose deceivers, right?

Money for Nothing

What began in 1991 as the International UFO Congress in Tucson, Arizona has become a business venture. It spawned several others over the years, some doing better than others. They all tend to follow the pattern shared above. The better the marketing and/or story, the more intriguing the conspiracy or mystery, numbers flock and those numbers mean dollars. In loose surveys over the last decade or so, real experiencers and serious folk express the need for discussing the non-human intelligences and communication that reveals a common thread toward learning how to live in harmony with natural law and order, like the universe.

Is there a theme to all the communication including crop circles, experiences of sensory input still needing a language to articulate coherently, telepathic and virtual visitations? There doesn’t seem to be any disagreement with the aforementioned ‘message’ about learning to live together. That is, as people getting along, the entire gamut from planet (its elements) to living creatures with and without ‘consciousness’ or what we express as being sentient. It naturally occurs in the evolution of sentient beings, every planetary civilization capable of star travel has learned it.

Who Goes There?

Believe it or not, there are humans who have learned it as well, nearly every one knows of interdimensional as well as interstellar capabilities. They cut through all the Ufology industry stuff, usually by non-engagement, and look for other ways of more ethically-driven ways to gather. The photo to the right is from Jonas Elrod’s experience during a meditation. The image was captured with special photography.

The events around the world today, as off-center as they are, still bring many folks who don’t know where else to find kindred folk. The names have been changed to protect the innocent and maintain anonymity so employment wouldn’t be jeopardized. It’s no wonder folks are reticent to come forward and risk the scrutiny of ‘ufologists,’ let alone the public.

More recently there have been great efforts by an organization that was endorsed by Dr. Edgar Mitchell as one of his final acts to continue his work in consciousness studies. Through their surveys, which are anonymous, over 4,000 participants have shared their personal experiences. Now we’re getting somewhere with FREE information. The data from these surveys is available and getting some attention. Rey Hernandez heads up the organization. Perhaps it will give folks encouragement to speak more publicly, somewhat anonymously. Rey certainly isn’t shy.

The general sense in this ‘free’ population is that things are progressing toward a beneficial end. Statistically over time the perception of events even changes toward the beneficial. It seems that as consciousness develops, the perception of events can drastically change as the experiencer progresses. Long-term contact tends to result in a vastly different understanding, congruent with the theme above. Hopefully the Ufology industry will recognize folks with integrity and take a chance on elevating the conversation.

Cosmic Comedy

In other areas, still cyclical and spiraling up the experience peak, Grant Cameron speaks and writes on the patterns of contact and the style and type associated with each ’round’ of the cycle. Is his research authentic and objective or putting a new spin on old information? Richard Dolan has become an expert in the history and he expresses an intellectual curiosity toward an optimistic quest of intentions and potential interspecie work. Is their research authentic and objective or just putting a new spin on old information?

Although it’s talked about religiously in some circles, the general public doesn’t seem to understand there have been those living among us for millennia. Even those who do admit the possibility or even reality, they don’t engage it any further. I find that suspect, or maybe a bit fearful of revealing their worst fears of prejudice toward others. Are we really learning how to get along or just hide our deceptive separative notions better?

It seems that the world continues to spiral out of control in our efforts to control our path. Many individuals are awakening to an understanding of holistic systems that permeate our lives. If consciousness evolves and the thoughtmosphere expands, what is the critical mass that would begin to right the ship, ‘our’ relationship that is. The ability to manage machinery with a mixture of galvanic response, psychokinesis and telepathy is just one example of understanding universal law and order, using built-in features of our very nature. It is currently way out of our ability to be disciplined to that degree. We like to argue too much.

Conspiracy theories always have an argumentative nature. Debates run high amongst those who believe in them, real or imagined. They take away from the more pressing need for transforming our way of doing business and educating our children on planet Earth. They give us a way to consider and discern, seeking the sensation within that reveals their truth or not. I hear that a lot from the grapevine, the contact underground that Dr. Joseph Burkes has engaged for a couple of decades.

More internet radio hosts are exploring the grapevine, giving us more information to analyze and discern. Randy Maugans and Chris Holly have been doing their own thing for a while with Off Planet Radio. Inception Radio Network has also done a lot toward contributing to the effort, but we have to use our discernment still; the loudest mouths still get too much time. I’m sure there many more. I’ve got to go to work now…

CONTACT NETWORK HISTORY PROJECT

CONTACT NETWORK HISTORY PROJECT

A Close Encounter of the Third Kind with Love.

Joseph Burkes MD 2015

It has been said that consciousness is the “golden thread” that ties us to UFO intelligence. After all if the ET hypothesis is correct and UFOs are an extraterrestrial manifestation, then we are going to be very different from them. We don’t share a common history, language or biological evolution, but what both humans and ETs have in common is that we are awake and are aware of that wakefulness.

Perhaps we can share states of being that come from that clear quiet place that we call consciousness itself. For those of us who have met the visitors face to face, there exists the possibility of sharing a sense of peace or joy. Although it may sound corny, as this narrative suggests we may also be able to communicate with, and share love.

“COMING OUT” OF THE UFO CLOSET

My initial enthusiastic support for CSETI ‘s contact efforts led me to a rather daring action. Some would call it foolish. I decided to set up a CSETI information booth at the American Public Health Association’s annual meeting held in Washington DC in November of 1992. I was accompanied by my medical group partner “Dr. Daniel.” He was in our Los Angeles CSETI CE-5 Initiative Working Group.

The APHA’s meeting draws about 10,000 health professionals whose political views are more to the left than mainstream medicine’s views. The APHA has historically championed the health rights of women, ethic minorities and workers. During the first few years of my medical career I had actively participated in the Occupational Health and Safety section of the APHA. In 1979 I was co-founder of the Los Angeles Committee on Occupational Safety and Health, a coalition of health care and legal professionals that endeavored through education and advocacy to make the workplace safer.

WORKING THE CROWD

At a beautiful new convention center in the nation’s capital, under a royal blue banner embroidered with the slogan, “ One Universe, One People!” Daniel and I “worked” the conference participants. A small TV monitor played dramatic footage of UFOs, while I called out to passersby, “Would you like to see a UFO video?” Apparently quite a few did, over 250 nurses, doctors and administrators watched the film clips and chatted with us during the 3-day conference. About forty signed up for more information and the bravest shared their personal stories of sightings and other contact experiences.

A CLOSE ENCOUNTER OF THE THIRD KIND WITH LOVE

A Ph.D. professor of nursing gave the most impressive report to me. From her convention badge I identified her as a faculty member from a major university. She watched the videos for a few minutes and then allowed me to interview her about her personal contact experience.

Some 7 years before she reportedly had a Close Encounter of the Third Kind. After nightfall while camping with her fiancée, her tent was filled with a very bright light. All around the campsite she could hear footsteps. Apparently from prior encounters she immediately realized that she was having a contact experience. The professor reported not being able to move but was fully awake. She could not stir her friend that was sound asleep. One humanoid stuck his head into the tent. By her description the being was the typical so called “Gray,” big head with wrap around eyes. My nursing colleague told me that she was happily excited and frightened at the same time.

The being quickly retreated but she could see his shadow and those of several others on the walls of her tent that was illuminated by the campfire light. She told me that she sent out the thought, “ I love you.” In a flash she felt a forceful burst of electric type energy. The sensation surged through her body from the top of her head down to the tip of her toes. The beings left her campsite and the encounter was over.

There are on the exhibit floor, under the bright lights with hundreds of booths and thousands of participants around us, she had described the experience simply, matter of fact, with just a touch of amazement. I was a perfect stranger to her and yet she was willing to share her recollections of an intimate contact with what she believed were non-human beings. I described to her the ambitious goals of CSETI’s CE-5 Initiative. She listened politely but chose not to sign up for more information. After all she was a professor at a major university and the notoriety of being a contact experiencer might cause her considerable harm. She wished me well in my crusade and walked away, disappearing into the crowd.

Compatible History

and response from the curator….

Dr. Burkes knows far too well that the consciousness we call ET is so connected to what we also call ‘unconditional love’ that it seems surreptitious that others would engage in fear-based conspiracy theories, imho. The frequency response of such deep levels of love can initially feel so intense that they indeed are a bit frightening; the unfamiliar sense of being totally and unconditionally ‘loved’ by high-frequency beings.

We ‘see’ them in many ways, from humanoid-looking (most appeasing) to reptilian (most challenging) and even non-bipedal creatures as well. It’s been said that we/they present themselves according to the viewer’s capacity or willingness to see. A lot of the current focus, though, is still on the lower vibratory realms, the research on encounters, sightings and such. Bridging the professional realms, like Joe did with the APHA, is critical and I believe mandatory today.

International Association for Near Death Studies

I had the opportunity to do the same a few years ago, with the International Association for Near-Death Studies. I applied for a presentation spot at their 2010 annual conference in Denver and got the nod, unexpectedly. After some scheduling rearrangements (initially having an hour, then a half-hour, then being put on a panel with two others and given 20 minutes as I stepped on stage) I felt a little uncomfortable with such demands that I felt were a bit unprofessional. Still, I was there and on stage.

I had a feeling things were going to go awry, so I didn’t put my powerpoint together until during the speaker just before us. It turned out to be perfectly timed… I came in just over the 20 minutes they allotted. During my presentation to the clinicians and medical professionals I introduced the notion of how the OBE’s, NDEs and STEs were all related and easily lended themselves to accessing what we call ETs and more, including cosmic consciousness.

I noticed some shades drawn with some of the audience but one individual in particular who was a long standing expert in the field, P.M. Atwater, was smiling from ear to ear and nodding continuously as I broached the delicate bridge. I knew I was going to hedge the edge of acceptability with this particular crowd, yet afterward there were several who congratulated me on bridging those worlds. No one to date had attempted to do so at the IANDS annual events.

Btw, I wasn’t invited back, either. 🙁 Still, the information was shared. Having multiple close encounters throughout my life has been both a blessing and a curse. I’m blessed with a greater understanding of the ‘non-humans;’ their perspective on universal law and order. I’m cursed with the misunderstanding and projections of others who are unable to hear from within.

Keep up the great work, Joe!

Here’s the video if anyone is interested…. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlvkmP3eZkE

Dr. Burkes and I had a great conversation a couple of months ago on Inception Radio, too… https://youtu.be/ozQ-HH4jXGU

Making Contact – CE5 Style

Making Contact – CE5 Style

For nearly two decades this document was part of the official CSETI training materials. I believe many of the lessons described here still apply,

Let’s face it; it’s OK to be somewhat apprehensive when going out into the field for the first time. Vectoring in ET Spacecraft to initiate a citizen’s diplomatic mission with the ET visitors is not something you’ve done every day of your life. It’s not something you learn at home or in grade school or at the university. You can’t watch a “Do it yourself” program about it on educational TV, (hopefully that will change in the future), nor is it an activity that is just plain “intuitively obvious” which yields to a spontaneous “anything goes” approach.

Following the CSETI contact protocols can be extraordinarily helpful for simply one reason. They really do work! Dozens of successful Close Encounters of the Fifth Kind have been initiated by CSETI Working Groups in North America and in England by following these principles. So we invite you to follow our example and see if you can add to this growing body of experience. Remember these protocols are not cut in stone. They have been evolving constantly and are based on each attempt at contact. Without a doubt they will continue to evolve, hopefully with your contributions as well.

As the CSETI leadership has emphasized there are no true experts in the field of “extraterrestriology”(a term that I believe Dr Greer coined in 1993.) There are no tenured professors at major universities in “Saucer Studies” who are available for consultation if you have questions. Given the current level of general societal denial concerning the prescience of ET visitors, you will not likely be the recipient of major funding to finance your research.

Nevertheless you may be amazed at how successful you can be in establishing contact early in the course of your efforts (this contact worker certainly was), and you can do so with a minimal of equipment combined with the right attitude. Let’s start with the first step and that is forming a group, but as part of that discussion we should review how the initial CSETI research teams were organized. If you already have a team of friends who know each other well and are ready to go out into the field, you might want to skip over this upcoming CSETI history treatise and go on to the next section “Dealing with Fear”.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF CSETI CE-5 INITIATIVE WORKING GROUPS

CSETI working groups have formed in a number of ways. The first attempts at doing regular fieldwork started in North Carolina, where CSETI International Director Dr. Steven Greer resides. He started going out into the field with a number of local supporters in 1991. It was there in the Appalachian Mountains that these basic contact protocols were initiated, based on Dr. Greer’s preliminary investigations. Following this initial phase, he embarked on a 3 year effort that involved giving dozens and dozens of lectures and workshops in North America and in Europe to facilitate the formation of other CSETI Close Encounters of the Fifth Kind Initiative Working Groups, CE-5 I WGs.

The training process usually consisted of a public lecture on a Friday evening followed by an in depth all day workshop the next day. There the guiding principles of the Center for the Study of Extraterrestrial Intelligence were described. (For a detailed explanation of these basic tenets please review Dr. Greer’s monograph available from the CSETI national office. It is sent out as part of the new member packet..) In addition the workshop participants were introduced to the guided meditation techniques that form the basis of Coherent Thought Sequencing (CTS).

At the workshop Dr. Greer reviewed the contact methods that enabled CSETI members to start their CE-5 research that very night. Under starry skies, Dr Greer’s demonstrations of how the contact protocols are carried out sometimes produced amazing results. More often than not there were sightings of anomalous lights that astounded many of the participants and on one occasion a truly historic event took place.

It occurred March 15, 1992 when following an all day CSETI workshop at Gulf Breeze Florida, no less than 4 ET spacecraft interacted with 50 of the participants for 15 minutes(For more details please see the full report in Dr. Greer’s monograph.) This spectacular occurrence was captured by several home videos. They show how three of the craft, which were visible as discs through binoculars, broke out of a loose formation and then took the shape of an equilateral triangle. This maneuver was in response to the CSETI’s light work that consisted of tracing triangles in the sky with powerful signal lanterns. The videos provided CSETI with dramatic documentation that served to recruit future working group members. (This working group coordinator, Dr. Joe Burkes of the Los Angeles CSETI contact team, joined the CE-5 Initiative in part because of convincing quality of these amazing home videos.)

In spite of high initial enthusiasm following these dramatic fieldwork demonstrations, working groups faced considerable difficulties in organizing themselves to do regular fieldwork. Often composed of people who had met for the first time at the workshop, they had to go through a complex process of training and socialization before they could work as an effective team. There are however a small number of outstanding exceptions to this pattern of participation in CSETI. In these instances teams formed from groups that were already doing contact work on their own and they brought CSETI in only after they already had established an effective and positive working relationship among themselves.

These pre-existing groups had a much higher probability of coalescing than those teams initially composed of strangers or as casual acquaintances. It cannot be over-emphasized that a CSETI Working Group’s success is highly dependent on the level of unity and cooperation between members of the team. This may be difficult to understand for those researchers who cannot acknowledge the consciousness links between CSETI members and our presumed ET collaborators. Nevertheless, it is the judgment of the current CSETI leadership that our efforts are being monitored by the extraterrestrials. Those teams that are plagued by individualism, selfishness, disunity and bickering, are simply not likely to get much contact. If some manifestation of ET contact does occur, but the level of dysfunctional behavior is high, it is almost certain that ongoing contact will not be sustained unless the team is able to overcome its shortcomings.

This concept implies that the extraterrestrials are actively monitoring the progress of CSETI Working Groups. This is an idea that both our harshest critics and open-minded skeptics would have great difficulty with on face value. Nevertheless it is CSETI’s impression that we have entered into a collaborative relationship with the extraterrestrials by initiating this citizens’ diplomatic movement. This notion is based on the fact that CSETI field teams regularly witness anomalous nocturnal lights and structured craft that interact with them.

In addition many individuals associated with CSETI will have sightings of craft and anomalous lights after they initiate plans for doing fieldwork. This can be quite amazing to some investigators because the sighting often occur over or near their homes.(On line subscribers please see upcoming article titled “CSETI, Sightings and Synchronicity” that describes this phenomenon in detail.)

As a results of Dr. Greer’s initial organizing efforts that involved many dozens of lectures and workshops from 1991 to 1994, a large number of teams coalesced and started doing field work. Of those initial teams put into the field, few were able to sustain ongoing research activities for more than a few months. Although each team’s success and failure can be analyzed in terms of the specific history of that group, a number of important lessons have emerged from this growing body of experience. The following suggestions are offered in the hope that they will help you maximize your chance of building a successful CE-5 Working Group.

Business meetings play an important role to a new CE-5 team. During the first few meetings in addition to reviewing the basic protocols, prospective field workers will need to share some details about themselves, especially why they are interested in contact work. This socialization process is essential in terms of building unity within the research team. The WG coordinator may want to carefully take note of the particular details of each new researchers story, as the better the WG coordinator knows her/his team, then the better she/he is able to lead the fieldwork.

Careful attention should be paid to the stated personal goals of prospective researchers, always keeping in mind the high ideals and goals of CSETI to facilitate a mutually beneficial, peaceful relationship with any and all ET civilizations visiting earth. Those who express fear-based assumptions about the visitors’ intentions may need special assistance and support from the group. The WG coordinator, who has the paramount responsibility for the maintaining cohesion of the team, will likely play a very active role in these preliminary discussions. It should always be recognized that CE-5 contact work is not for everyone and WG s are primarily research teams focusing on doing regular field work to investigate ET intelligence and spacecraft visiting earth. We are not a support group for those who believe they are contactees, “abductees” or want-to- bees.

Following brief business meetings, I suggest that the team should immediately go out to do field work. A recommendation of 2 or 3 outings the first month can help build the unity and camaraderie so necessary for building a successful team. A less rigorous schedule of fieldwork may prevent the development of team unity. Don’t be surprised if considerable attrition occurs within the ranks of the team during the first month or two of field operations. Expect perhaps a minimum of 50% of those who attend a workshop or the initial meetings to drop out.

For some it will simply be that fantasizing about fieldwork is far more attractive than actually doing it. Some individuals may want only to talk about UFOs, rather than doing something about an ET presence on Earth. After all, staying up late at night, at times in adverse weather, to engage in an activity as strange, audacious and exciting as vectoring in ET spacecraft, may be too difficult for couch potatoes.

For other prospective field workers the obstacles they face may be interpersonal. Let’s face it, not everyone is a team player. The UFO field has more than its fair share of strange birds that may not have the social skills to work effectively in a group. The more stable and the more secure an individual is in terms of having a steady well paying job, family support for CSETI research and having adequate amounts of free time to dedicate to this important work, the more likely heshe will be able to persevere and successfully integrate into a CSETI Working Group. Delaying going out to do field work, and staying with discussion type of business meetings during the initial formation of the team, has been fatal for a number of Working Groups. They could not coalesce as a team in part because of poor leadership that failed to grasp the urgency of initiating research activities.

When subjected to a seemingly endless series of discussions about things theoretical, those prospective CSETI investigators who are eager to go out into field, will understandably loose their enthusiasm. This armchair type of “research” unfortunately occurs far to often in the UFO community. A steady diet of wild speculation is constantly being dished out instead of obtaining solid information based on prospective scientific investigation. CSETI has launched the CE-5 Initiative to remedy this sad situation. Thus a rigorous schedule of fieldwork early in the development of the group, will help separate the talkers from the doers and at the same time help add important new experience and scientific research to CSETI’s growing data base. Not unexpectedly, the big talkers may simply drop out when an active schedule of fieldwork is initiated, and the team’s identity will happily coalesce around the most highly motivated researchers.
