The State of UFO Investigations Today

What do you think about the state of Ufology today?

Does it meet up to your expectations? Sadly, it falls short for nearly every serious investigator. It falls even shorter for experiencers who wish the topics of discussion to be more focused on real interactions.

What has happened to what once seemed to be a burgeoning field of study for and with folks who’ve had some kind of experience or at least witnessed what has often been termed ‘UFOs’?

Some years ago, in a presentation in England, Bob Dean spoke of the fact that ‘they’ are no longer ‘UFOs’ because we know what they are… visitors in various types of interstellar and perhaps interdimensional craft. Paul Hellyer, retired Canadian Defense Minister, speaks openly about his knowledge from his prior position and current relationships.

Banal Banter

So many today banter about the past; opinions and research that have been so trampled they have lost their appeal to serious folks. You might be one of them. Unfortunately, the attraction to the curious has helped to develop an industry that supports speculators and storytellers as much as real information sharing. In the thirty plus years the author has been involved there have been at least three cycles of activity. Stephen Bassett does his best to keep it real as he continues to lobby for disclosure, but is he involved because it is a lifestyle, passion, or a way to earn a living and travel? Dr. Steven Greer continues to speak about his contact techniques and the familiar message he admits to receiving as well, but is he legit or just playing the crowd?

Each cycle starts with some real information, a new breakthrough or personage that suddenly decides to share their story. Then the attention gets distracted to old information that’s rehashed and then on to some sci-fi encounter that has something to do with a conspiracy. Whether it is a government coverup of interaction with aliens or a secret space program, the process repeats about every 10 to 12 years with new people. We’re due for a new spin. We all oppose deceivers, right?

Money for Nothing

What began in 1991 as the International UFO Congress in Tucson, Arizona has become a business venture. It spawned several others over the years, some doing better than others. They all tend to follow the pattern shared above. The better the marketing and/or story, the more intriguing the conspiracy or mystery, numbers flock and those numbers mean dollars. In loose surveys over the last decade or so, real experiencers and serious folk express the need for discussing the non-human intelligences and communication that reveals a common thread toward learning how to live in harmony with natural law and order, like the universe.

Is there a theme to all the communication including crop circles, experiences of sensory input still needing a language to articulate coherently, telepathic and virtual visitations? There doesn’t seem to be any disagreement with the aforementioned ‘message’ about learning to live together. That is, as people getting along, the entire gamut from planet (its elements) to living creatures with and without ‘consciousness’ or what we express as being sentient. It naturally occurs in the evolution of sentient beings, every planetary civilization capable of star travel has learned it.

Who Goes There?

Believe it or not, there are humans who have learned it as well, nearly every one knows of interdimensional as well as interstellar capabilities. They cut through all the Ufology industry stuff, usually by non-engagement, and look for other ways of more ethically-driven ways to gather. The photo to the right is from Jonas Elrod’s experience during a meditation. The image was captured with special photography.

The events around the world today, as off-center as they are, still bring many folks who don’t know where else to find kindred folk. The names have been changed to protect the innocent and maintain anonymity so employment wouldn’t be jeopardized. It’s no wonder folks are reticent to come forward and risk the scrutiny of ‘ufologists,’ let alone the public.

More recently there have been great efforts by an organization that was endorsed by Dr. Edgar Mitchell as one of his final acts to continue his work in consciousness studies. Through their surveys, which are anonymous, over 4,000 participants have shared their personal experiences. Now we’re getting somewhere with FREE information. The data from these surveys is available and getting some attention. Rey Hernandez heads up the organization. Perhaps it will give folks encouragement to speak more publicly, somewhat anonymously. Rey certainly isn’t shy.

The general sense in this ‘free’ population is that things are progressing toward a beneficial end. Statistically over time the perception of events even changes toward the beneficial. It seems that as consciousness develops, the perception of events can drastically change as the experiencer progresses. Long-term contact tends to result in a vastly different understanding, congruent with the theme above. Hopefully the Ufology industry will recognize folks with integrity and take a chance on elevating the conversation.

Cosmic Comedy

In other areas, still cyclical and spiraling up the experience peak, Grant Cameron speaks and writes on the patterns of contact and the style and type associated with each ’round’ of the cycle. Is his research authentic and objective or putting a new spin on old information? Richard Dolan has become an expert in the history and he expresses an intellectual curiosity toward an optimistic quest of intentions and potential interspecie work. Is their research authentic and objective or just putting a new spin on old information?

Although it’s talked about religiously in some circles, the general public doesn’t seem to understand there have been those living among us for millennia. Even those who do admit the possibility or even reality, they don’t engage it any further. I find that suspect, or maybe a bit fearful of revealing their worst fears of prejudice toward others. Are we really learning how to get along or just hide our deceptive separative notions better?

It seems that the world continues to spiral out of control in our efforts to control our path. Many individuals are awakening to an understanding of holistic systems that permeate our lives. If consciousness evolves and the thoughtmosphere expands, what is the critical mass that would begin to right the ship, ‘our’ relationship that is. The ability to manage machinery with a mixture of galvanic response, psychokinesis and telepathy is just one example of understanding universal law and order, using built-in features of our very nature. It is currently way out of our ability to be disciplined to that degree. We like to argue too much.

Conspiracy theories always have an argumentative nature. Debates run high amongst those who believe in them, real or imagined. They take away from the more pressing need for transforming our way of doing business and educating our children on planet Earth. They give us a way to consider and discern, seeking the sensation within that reveals their truth or not. I hear that a lot from the grapevine, the contact underground that Dr. Joseph Burkes has engaged for a couple of decades.

More internet radio hosts are exploring the grapevine, giving us more information to analyze and discern. Randy Maugans and Chris Holly have been doing their own thing for a while with Off Planet Radio. Inception Radio Network has also done a lot toward contributing to the effort, but we have to use our discernment still; the loudest mouths still get too much time. I’m sure there many more. I’ve got to go to work now…

Contact in the Desert 2016

Contact in the Desert, now in its fourth year and as usual, brought dynamics of experience, perception and research in the thoughtmosphere provided some polarizing information among the presentations at . We all get polarized from time to time and have our moments of not knowing what to believe in. There is plenty of information from both sides, since I mentioned polarity. What’s in the center of that? Our hearts, serene and still, in harmony with the balance within.

The latter was the conversation that seemed to permeate the atmosphere of the patrons at the recent Contact in the Desert, like it was the common message many were receiving. The event itself surely seemed like the advertised, Woodstock of UFOlogy, even with the intense heat that nearly reached 110 degrees at times there were over 2,000 patrons in attendance.

Contact in the Desert 2016 - CITD-amphitheaterOutside at the amphitheater were several panels and other presentations, including this one moderated by David Wilcock. Inside out of the heat were three other presentation destinations that were filled for nearly every speaker. Old timers like Eric Von Daniken (Chariots of the Gods: Unsolved Mysteries of the Past) joined more recent folks like Richard Dolan (UFOs and the National Security State: Chronology of a Coverup, 1941-1973) and Giorgio Tsukalos (Ancient Aliens)

In the outer world we no doubt are challenged with ethical, moral and environmental choices on a daily basis. Some in critical places are in a moment to moment scenario often, even more intense and vulnerable than we can imagine. They are everywhere within the ‘system,’ working for the good of all with the people, places and things in place. As a contract facilitator, I sometimes gain access to really cool projects that give me a birds-eye view from inside and an opportunity to have an impact on personal and professional development of the stakeholders.

As things go, several interviews didn’t make it. One did, though, with Jimmy Church. You’ll find it Contact in the Desert 2016 - Graham Hancockbelow. It’s raw, short and poignant. The most notable addition to the fray was Graham Hancock, a researcher in consciousness from the UK, whose work is provocative and worthy of consideration in the author’s opinion. I had a much longer chat with Emmy Award winning director Sid Goldberg, who was conducting a number of on-camera interviews for Earth Mystery News.

The latter emerges as better systems. Certainly there are choices of how to proceed in such fashion. This year’s event was even larger, perhaps 2500 or so, and campers were everywhere. The patrons were no longer the normal patrons and familiar faces from decades of building relationships, but a whole new crowd that included multitudes of millennials. Scheduled presentations and talks began early and festivities lasted until midnight, including a birthday party for George Noory with a live band and dance afterward.

Saturday night’s activities also included a skywatch, where some very interesting lights passed by in succession during the session. The evening began with a bit of centering offered by Kris, one of the amazing folks that kept things running smoothly. The common element of initiating any kind of contact seems to be the willingness to suspend fear of any kind within oneself. It frees the mind/body/spirit to be available for a much different kind of communication, subtler and more refined than any spoken language.

Sunday night’s ceremony included Dr. Dream and his Band of Angels. Yes, that’s me in the background. He lead a process of Contact in the Desert 2016 - Dr.Dream et alspritzing the audience with essential oils while using singing bowls and affirmations to perform what he calls a ‘galactivation,’ where each chakra is energized and vibrationally attuned through the bowls. 333 bowls were distributed in 19 stations around approximately 1,000 to 1500. The harmonics created from octaves of the same note had its effects for sure. It was in preparation for contact with James Gilliland, founder of ECETI

People make the difference in how we proceed with the information and inspiration from these events. Many come out of curiosity. Many come out of sincere interest. Even others come to connect with others, driven by their own experience and understanding of this thing we call ‘extraterrestrial engagement’ that is often obfuscated by emotion and insufficient intrigue. Those so driven recognize a certain change in how reality works for them, providing tasty tidbits in the breadcrumbs along the trail. At times they report it to be quite magical, recognizing the inherent energy of an inconceivably intelligent symphony.

Communication Conundrums

I hear a lot about different conspiracies throughout the ufology community. It has been a mainstay of the disclosure movement. The same exists in other populations that might be considered ‘fringe,’ the age-old story of us vs. them. The last few decades of research across a number of fields strongly suggests there are levels of consciousness that, heretofore, have not been readily shared in public except in small clusters or communities, mostly indigenous. It’s my experience that folks inside the ‘system’ in question, at least in my limited exposure, do their best in an overwhelmingly complex system to handle the needs of those coming here in search of a better life. Creating housing and support for them, especially the children, is a huge responsibility and it has been taken on.

CPC-McAllenMy limited exposure includes facilitating pre-construction partnering workshops for various State and Federal projects, like the F-35 Operations and Maintenance Facility at Luke AFB in Arizona and an upcoming one for Homeland Security and a centralized processing center (CPC) for the droves of unaccompanied children crossing our borders daily. We think in such simple terms about life and love, not realizing the complexity of the organization necessary to deliver any public service let alone the compassion of those in direct contact.

Experiences of those who’ve been contactees and learned of their own choice and empowerment in the process concede that the organizational capacity of these other life forms is so far beyond our comprehension it goes beyond understatement. They’re here, have been here a long, long, long time and yet remained at a distance because of our own need to develop as a planetary civilization, including the transformation from ego to wego we are currently experiencing.

Can you imagine what it takes to coordinate thousands of people to achieve a goal of any kind? It is a production of immense complexity, from talent development (human resources) to the places and things required to deliver the product. Conversations during the CITD event echoed such consideration and compassion for the evolution of our specie, accepting we’ve had a rocky road to date and that change happens as we become more accountable and responsible in our own actions, at whatever level our passion or purpose may invite. Individuals gravitate to resonant fields of performance, from the very material to the very esoteric.

Here to assistBest practices now include holistic systems thinking and talent development includes personal mastery. Like any personal discipline takes years to develop, these kinds of structures take time to change let alone the attitudes from apathy to victimization, all with inherent separative components, that are drug kicking and screaming into a new order. That order begins with learning how to get along and work together toward common goals that emerge from assessing the needs of whatever community is involved. I’m in awe of the process. It naturally draws us toward harmony, understanding and a willingness to work better at being.

Inspiration

In that awe, perhaps, is a core intention of good will and harmony among people and planet. In an unimpeded system, holistic in nature, the natural order would be complementary, even a synergy of symbiotic systems already present. We haven’t been able to adjust our vision until recently, a parallel to the near-vertical information curve we all know about, right? As a trained neutral, facilitator, I get to play a kind of Aikido in the thoughtmosphere when deterrents to progress come up.

These new practices and understanding are permeating the world, slowly, and as we get better at building delivery systems. the time between the clustered housing and finding homes and/or family here already will diminish dramatically. I admit my view has been limited, but at least it’s a view. 🙂 Do you think aliens would treat illegals seeking a better life differently? It would seem only obvious they’ve evolved through our present dilemmas.

The leadership of the ufology community is now considering the development of consciousness and our misunderstanding of the motives due to our lack of awareness, not of ‘them’ but of ourselves. As Jimmy says, “We’re about 22,” as a population. Millions of experiencers are beginning to compare notes on-line and in-person at events like this where being weird is the norm. The experiences are consistent in description of some ‘states’ across the Near-Death Studies, Consciousness Movement, Quantum Theory and the Contact Experiences, which I also weave through Stubbing My TOE on Purpose: A Seminal View of Consciousness, Cosmology and the Congruence of Science and Spirituality

Interview with Jimmy Church, in the midst of the magic… (audio is unfiltered, crowd noise may impede clarity). Enjoy! btw.. it’s interesting that just after a few days the parent site UfologyPRSS.com is experiencing some major technical difficulties. In our first three years, this is the first time the site has had problems. Please be patient.

Why No Quality UFO Video?

alienanimation19WHY DOES UFO INTELLIGENCE DENY EXPERIENCERS QUALITY VIDEO DOCUMENTATION OF CLOSE ENCOUNTERS?

Joseph Burkes MD 2014

For over 20 years I have witnessed numerous UFOs in the course of fieldwork with contactee networks. Twenty years ago in the fall of 1994 UFO intelligence revealed to me the mechanism by which they create “hologram” like visual displays with anomalous “shooting stars” that were linked to consciousness and appeared repeatedly in the exact same spot at our request.

Each individual sighting of what was thought at first to be just a “meteor” had the exactly the same characteristics as the previous “shooting star.” Not only was their location in the sky identical, but they also had the same brightness, color, duration, angle of descent and length of trail. Amazingly each stereotypic visual display occurred seconds after we made the verbal request for them to appear. If UFO intelligence can create stereotypic illusions of “shooting stars,” then what we call “flying saucers” might also be “holographic” like projections. The significance of this proposition should not be underestimated.

What I suggesting is that the entire belief system based on the ET hypothesis for UFOs is being facilitated by the same mechanism. Some flying saucers rather than being understood as “objects” would be better described as technologically mediated illusions. This explanation is what I call the “Virtual Experience Hypothesis.” (For more details see the November 15th FB posting on the Contact Underground page. It is titled “DOES UFO INTELLIGENCE “HOAX” ENCOUNTERS FOR EXPERIENCERS?”

Despite raising the specter that some sightings of UFOs are illusions, I have no doubt flying saucers can be very physical and likely represent craft manufactured by an advanced non-human technology.

Consider the following

UFOs can be picked up on multiple radar devices while being seen by multiple witnesses.

They can trigger undeniable physical effects such as causing a large aircraft to shake violently when they rapidly pass by at very close range.

Please understand I am not saying that all flying saucers are anomalous visual displays created by UFO intelligence. I am asserting that some are physical objects, presumably “craft” and others, perhaps even most, are illusions. In my experience it is difficult for most observers to tell the difference between the two.

Although some sightings are physical objects, nevertheless the Steven Spielberg “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” types of images are seldom if ever videotaped by UFO witnesses. If such events are recorded, CGI technology for many puts their authenticity into question.

It seems to me that the intelligence responsible for UFOs doesn’t allow quality videos to be obtained except under perhaps the most unusual circumstances. Why is this so?

I worked with Dr Greer’s Center for the Study of Extraterrestrial Intelligence from 1992 to 1998. For over five years I was the leader of a Close Encounters of the Fifth Kind contact team in Southern California. I also did fieldwork with the Hispanic contactee network called “Rama” in 1995. 2004, 2006 and 2009.

During many of our field investigations we had UFO sightings, but the quality documentation that we wanted to promote our contact work, recruit new activists and effectively silence the self-styled debunkers and media shrills was denied us again and again.

GULF BREEZE

From 1992 to 1994 four major encounters took place involving Dr Greer’s investigative teams. In only one of these events was quality videos obtained. This was in Gulf Breeze Florida in March of 1992 when two independent video photographers filmed three or four saucer shaped UFOs. Regular photographs using film were acquired during that amazing encounter as well. There were over 40 witnesses present.

SOUTHERN ENGLAND

In July of 1992 a large brilliantly illuminated disc shaped craft approached Dr Greer’s team in the crop circle region of Southern England. It only did so however while a strong rainstorm was taking place that prevented photographic documentation.. This highly significant encounter was showcased on an episode of the Fox TV show “Sightings” that aired in January of 1993. On that episode two of the witnesses present described signaling that occurred between a large disc hovering in a field and Dr Greer’s team. There were three witnesses to this event, but again no video.

VOLCANIC ZONE NEAR MEXICO CITY

In Mexico at the base of Popocatepetl Volcano I was present on Feb 1, 1993 when a large triangular shaped UFO signaled with powerful lights at the CSETI team at it distance of less than three hundred meters. Suddenly all the camera equipment stopped functioning. This included a video camera, a 35 mm SLR camera, and a spring activated “Brownie” inexpensive type of camera. As soon as the UFO departed and disappeared behind the Volcano, all cameras functioned normally. There were five witnesses present but no objective documentation of the event was obtained.

LOS MITRES MOUNTAINS

In December of 1994 in Los Mitres Mountains of Northern Mexico a CSETI team witnessed a large saucer sitting on the side of a mountain. It was so close that the witnesses were reportedly able to see humanoid beings move along the outside of the craft. However the encounter was only able to reach this high level of contact after the CSETI leader Dr Greer and his assistant Ms Shari Adamiak agreed not to film the encounter after allegedly receiving telepathic communication from UFO intelligence requesting that no photography should be attempted. There were five witnesses present and no photographic documentation was obtained.

RECORD OF LOST OPPORTUNITIES

This historic record of lost opportunities indicates that the intelligence responsible for the UFO phenomenon does not easily cooperate with investigators to obtain quality objective electronic video and still film documentation during close encounters. In my opinion this is especially vexing considering the presumably cooperative relationship that contact networks have with UFO intelligence. Why is this so?

Decades of speculative deliberation have come up with a number of wild notions. None are very satisfying. Here are a few.

THE “ET” MASTER PLAN SCENARIO

UFO intelligence is following a long-term master plan that carefully modulates the level of contact that is most conducive for achieving their objectives.

If convincing videos were made available with multiple credible witnesses present during the filmings, this might lead to a precipitous realization that mankind is not alone with devastating effects on the belief systems that hold our planet together.

Stock markets could crash.

Fanatical new religions worshiping “space gods” might sprout up everywhere.

Fundamentalists might attack UFO experiencers as being the “Army of Satan. “

Militarists would call for trillions to be spent on space-based weapons to protect us from an “alien invasion” while enriching their corporate patrons.
This is just a short list.

ETs MIGHT HAVE A DIFFERENT BIOLOGICAL CLOCK

The “ETs” themselves might represent races of beings that as individuals live several hundred years. What seems to us an agonizing delay in getting documentation might be a very short time for them. For all we know “they” the so-called “visitors” have been here for thousands of years watching us and slowly revealing their presence in a gradual fashion.

In conclusion UFO observers, both the first time witness and long term experiencers, whether they be “contactees” or abductees,” are being denied quality video. This is because UFO intelligence has in my opinion deliberately prevents us from doing so, perhaps for some of the reasons discussed above.

This state of affairs in my view is not set in stone. Despite the challenges for both novice UFO witnesses and those who have been singled out for repeated sightings as “experiencers,” efforts to obtain quality video documentations of flying saucers must go on.

The possibility exists that in some time in the not too distant future, UFO Intelligence will ratchet up the level of interactions with humanity. Under improved conditions for communication and contact, they might be willing to grant opportunities for obtaining quality videos of UFOs.

A BOLD PLAN WHOSE TIME MAY COME

Imagine the following scenario. In an attempt to break the media “UFO truth embargo,” dozens of contact teams plan a world wide interactive event. Of course this can only be attempted with the strong support of flying saucer intelligence. Contact activists send an invitation to the ETs whose appearance is requested at designated fieldwork sites around the globe. Once on location the saucers allow themselves to be filmed and via Internet steaming video the whole world is watching.

“This is Impossible!” one might reasonably say. For now it is “impossible.” But in a decade or perhaps a generation, what seems like a wild scenario could become reality. To get this level of cooperation between UFO intelligence and those contact activists who are engaging the alleged “ETs” there would have to be far more openness and equality in the human/non-human relationship. This is a goal of the international networks of contactees that I have labeled the “Contact Underground.”

PERSEVERE!

My advice to my fellow UFO enthusiasts is that we will just have to be patient. Advances are being made in terms of less expensive quality night vision equipment as well as technology that might allow easier live uplinks to the Internet. This technology could be utilized by UFO Intelligence and contact workers to stage a live “People’s Disclosure “ event.

This is important because the UFO presence, especially if it turns out to be ET in nature, in my opinion threatens “the powers that be.” This includes the military, economic and political establishments of our planet. I believe that their opposition to acknowledging the reality of UFOs makes impossible both any official investigation of the phenomenon or their successfully achieving meaningful communication with UFO intelligence.

OUR BIRTH RIGHT

In a certain sense it is the responsibility of the people of the planet to develop a sustainable more open relationship with the alleged “ETs.” This will likely be achieved without any authority granting us “permission” to do so. As one who for over twenty years has promoted this campaign of human initiated contact, I believe such a mission is humanity’s birthright. No power on Earth should try to stop us from developing this important relationship.

Making Contact – CE5 Style

Making Contact – CE5 Style

For nearly two decades this document was part of the official CSETI training materials. I believe many of the lessons described here still apply,

Let’s face it; it’s OK to be somewhat apprehensive when going out into the field for the first time. Vectoring in ET Spacecraft to initiate a citizen’s diplomatic mission with the ET visitors is not something you’ve done every day of your life. It’s not something you learn at home or in grade school or at the university. You can’t watch a “Do it yourself” program about it on educational TV, (hopefully that will change in the future), nor is it an activity that is just plain “intuitively obvious” which yields to a spontaneous “anything goes” approach.

Following the CSETI contact protocols can be extraordinarily helpful for simply one reason. They really do work! Dozens of successful Close Encounters of the Fifth Kind have been initiated by CSETI Working Groups in North America and in England by following these principles. So we invite you to follow our example and see if you can add to this growing body of experience. Remember these protocols are not cut in stone. They have been evolving constantly and are based on each attempt at contact. Without a doubt they will continue to evolve, hopefully with your contributions as well.

As the CSETI leadership has emphasized there are no true experts in the field of “extraterrestriology”(a term that I believe Dr Greer coined in 1993.) There are no tenured professors at major universities in “Saucer Studies” who are available for consultation if you have questions. Given the current level of general societal denial concerning the prescience of ET visitors, you will not likely be the recipient of major funding to finance your research.

Nevertheless you may be amazed at how successful you can be in establishing contact early in the course of your efforts (this contact worker certainly was), and you can do so with a minimal of equipment combined with the right attitude. Let’s start with the first step and that is forming a group, but as part of that discussion we should review how the initial CSETI research teams were organized. If you already have a team of friends who know each other well and are ready to go out into the field, you might want to skip over this upcoming CSETI history treatise and go on to the next section “Dealing with Fear”.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF CSETI CE-5 INITIATIVE WORKING GROUPS

CSETI working groups have formed in a number of ways. The first attempts at doing regular fieldwork started in North Carolina, where CSETI International Director Dr. Steven Greer resides. He started going out into the field with a number of local supporters in 1991. It was there in the Appalachian Mountains that these basic contact protocols were initiated, based on Dr. Greer’s preliminary investigations. Following this initial phase, he embarked on a 3 year effort that involved giving dozens and dozens of lectures and workshops in North America and in Europe to facilitate the formation of other CSETI Close Encounters of the Fifth Kind Initiative Working Groups, CE-5 I WGs.

The training process usually consisted of a public lecture on a Friday evening followed by an in depth all day workshop the next day. There the guiding principles of the Center for the Study of Extraterrestrial Intelligence were described. (For a detailed explanation of these basic tenets please review Dr. Greer’s monograph available from the CSETI national office. It is sent out as part of the new member packet..) In addition the workshop participants were introduced to the guided meditation techniques that form the basis of Coherent Thought Sequencing (CTS).

At the workshop Dr. Greer reviewed the contact methods that enabled CSETI members to start their CE-5 research that very night. Under starry skies, Dr Greer’s demonstrations of how the contact protocols are carried out sometimes produced amazing results. More often than not there were sightings of anomalous lights that astounded many of the participants and on one occasion a truly historic event took place.

It occurred March 15, 1992 when following an all day CSETI workshop at Gulf Breeze Florida, no less than 4 ET spacecraft interacted with 50 of the participants for 15 minutes(For more details please see the full report in Dr. Greer’s monograph.) This spectacular occurrence was captured by several home videos. They show how three of the craft, which were visible as discs through binoculars, broke out of a loose formation and then took the shape of an equilateral triangle. This maneuver was in response to the CSETI’s light work that consisted of tracing triangles in the sky with powerful signal lanterns. The videos provided CSETI with dramatic documentation that served to recruit future working group members. (This working group coordinator, Dr. Joe Burkes of the Los Angeles CSETI contact team, joined the CE-5 Initiative in part because of convincing quality of these amazing home videos.)

In spite of high initial enthusiasm following these dramatic fieldwork demonstrations, working groups faced considerable difficulties in organizing themselves to do regular fieldwork. Often composed of people who had met for the first time at the workshop, they had to go through a complex process of training and socialization before they could work as an effective team. There are however a small number of outstanding exceptions to this pattern of participation in CSETI. In these instances teams formed from groups that were already doing contact work on their own and they brought CSETI in only after they already had established an effective and positive working relationship among themselves.

These pre-existing groups had a much higher probability of coalescing than those teams initially composed of strangers or as casual acquaintances. It cannot be over-emphasized that a CSETI Working Group’s success is highly dependent on the level of unity and cooperation between members of the team. This may be difficult to understand for those researchers who cannot acknowledge the consciousness links between CSETI members and our presumed ET collaborators. Nevertheless, it is the judgment of the current CSETI leadership that our efforts are being monitored by the extraterrestrials. Those teams that are plagued by individualism, selfishness, disunity and bickering, are simply not likely to get much contact. If some manifestation of ET contact does occur, but the level of dysfunctional behavior is high, it is almost certain that ongoing contact will not be sustained unless the team is able to overcome its shortcomings.

This concept implies that the extraterrestrials are actively monitoring the progress of CSETI Working Groups. This is an idea that both our harshest critics and open-minded skeptics would have great difficulty with on face value. Nevertheless it is CSETI’s impression that we have entered into a collaborative relationship with the extraterrestrials by initiating this citizens’ diplomatic movement. This notion is based on the fact that CSETI field teams regularly witness anomalous nocturnal lights and structured craft that interact with them.

In addition many individuals associated with CSETI will have sightings of craft and anomalous lights after they initiate plans for doing fieldwork. This can be quite amazing to some investigators because the sighting often occur over or near their homes.(On line subscribers please see upcoming article titled “CSETI, Sightings and Synchronicity” that describes this phenomenon in detail.)

As a results of Dr. Greer’s initial organizing efforts that involved many dozens of lectures and workshops from 1991 to 1994, a large number of teams coalesced and started doing field work. Of those initial teams put into the field, few were able to sustain ongoing research activities for more than a few months. Although each team’s success and failure can be analyzed in terms of the specific history of that group, a number of important lessons have emerged from this growing body of experience. The following suggestions are offered in the hope that they will help you maximize your chance of building a successful CE-5 Working Group.

Business meetings play an important role to a new CE-5 team. During the first few meetings in addition to reviewing the basic protocols, prospective field workers will need to share some details about themselves, especially why they are interested in contact work. This socialization process is essential in terms of building unity within the research team. The WG coordinator may want to carefully take note of the particular details of each new researchers story, as the better the WG coordinator knows her/his team, then the better she/he is able to lead the fieldwork.

Careful attention should be paid to the stated personal goals of prospective researchers, always keeping in mind the high ideals and goals of CSETI to facilitate a mutually beneficial, peaceful relationship with any and all ET civilizations visiting earth. Those who express fear-based assumptions about the visitors’ intentions may need special assistance and support from the group. The WG coordinator, who has the paramount responsibility for the maintaining cohesion of the team, will likely play a very active role in these preliminary discussions. It should always be recognized that CE-5 contact work is not for everyone and WG s are primarily research teams focusing on doing regular field work to investigate ET intelligence and spacecraft visiting earth. We are not a support group for those who believe they are contactees, “abductees” or want-to- bees.

Following brief business meetings, I suggest that the team should immediately go out to do field work. A recommendation of 2 or 3 outings the first month can help build the unity and camaraderie so necessary for building a successful team. A less rigorous schedule of fieldwork may prevent the development of team unity. Don’t be surprised if considerable attrition occurs within the ranks of the team during the first month or two of field operations. Expect perhaps a minimum of 50% of those who attend a workshop or the initial meetings to drop out.

For some it will simply be that fantasizing about fieldwork is far more attractive than actually doing it. Some individuals may want only to talk about UFOs, rather than doing something about an ET presence on Earth. After all, staying up late at night, at times in adverse weather, to engage in an activity as strange, audacious and exciting as vectoring in ET spacecraft, may be too difficult for couch potatoes.

For other prospective field workers the obstacles they face may be interpersonal. Let’s face it, not everyone is a team player. The UFO field has more than its fair share of strange birds that may not have the social skills to work effectively in a group. The more stable and the more secure an individual is in terms of having a steady well paying job, family support for CSETI research and having adequate amounts of free time to dedicate to this important work, the more likely heshe will be able to persevere and successfully integrate into a CSETI Working Group. Delaying going out to do field work, and staying with discussion type of business meetings during the initial formation of the team, has been fatal for a number of Working Groups. They could not coalesce as a team in part because of poor leadership that failed to grasp the urgency of initiating research activities.

When subjected to a seemingly endless series of discussions about things theoretical, those prospective CSETI investigators who are eager to go out into field, will understandably loose their enthusiasm. This armchair type of “research” unfortunately occurs far to often in the UFO community. A steady diet of wild speculation is constantly being dished out instead of obtaining solid information based on prospective scientific investigation. CSETI has launched the CE-5 Initiative to remedy this sad situation. Thus a rigorous schedule of fieldwork early in the development of the group, will help separate the talkers from the doers and at the same time help add important new experience and scientific research to CSETI’s growing data base. Not unexpectedly, the big talkers may simply drop out when an active schedule of fieldwork is initiated, and the team’s identity will happily coalesce around the most highly motivated researchers.

END OF PART ONE, PART TWO “DEALING WITH FEAR” to follow.

Skeptiko – Science at the Tipping Point

alex-bw-head1Upon researching Alex Tsakaris and Skeptiko, the professionalism of his material and writing is too good to attempt to repackage here. So, in lieu of a rewrite, we’ll proceed with content from Skeptiko’s website and hope Alex doesn’t mind.

The name Skeptiko comes from the ancient Greek philosophy of Skeptikos, and refers to the teachings and the traits of a school of philosophers of whom it was said “asserted nothing but only opined”.

Our Agenda
Follow the data… wherever it leads.  Explore the possibility that the dominant scientific paradigm (i.e. Materialism) might be at a tipping point.  Engage the top thinkers in pointed discussions about the questions that matter most. Treat all guests with respect.

Host Bio: Alex Tsakiris

Alex, host of Skeptiko, is a successful entrepreneur turned science podcaster. In 2007 he founded Skeptiko which has become the #1 podcast covering the science of human consciousness.  Alex has appeared on syndicated radio talk shows both in the US and the UK and is well-know within the parapsychology and near-death experience research communities.

Examples of Engagement (from Skeptiko’s Community files)

In a recent podcast episode of Skeptiko, Dr David Jacobs is quoted as saying:

“This is not consciousness-raising; this is like consciousness denying. This is consciousness-lowering in a sense. So I don’t have any stake in this. It would be wonderful if it is. I think that John Mack was just dead wrong in his analysis of this. In fact, he tried and tried and tried to ram the abduction phenomenon into his preconceived ideas about consciousness and never could. Most people don’t realize that he gave up. He said, “That’s it. I don’t want to do it anymore,” because it could never conform to his ideas. Two years before he died he stopped doing abduction research altogether, closed up his peer group at Harvard, and told Budd Hopkins that maybe he’d been a little too gullible in this situation of abductions. He could never fit it into what he wanted it to be.”

Jacobs has made these statements about Dr. John Mack before, notably in a documentary film by David Cherniak, and he remains wrong.

Jacobs’ narrow view of the phenomenon is a holdover from early research which failed to accept that the alien encounter phenomenon involves different levels of reality and is deeply affecting in both positive and negative ways to those who experience it. This difference between Mack and Jacobs is of course widely known, and need not be debated here; Mack wrote expansively of what he learned from experiencers in Passport to the Cosmos, his second book on the subject.

But in particular to your inquiry, Jacobs’ repeated claim that Dr. Mack gave up his interest in alien encounters is simply false. Jacobs made that same claim earlier in the Cherniak documentary.

In fact, Dr. Mack had wrapped up the research branch of his organization (PEER – the Program for Extraordinary Experience Research) a few years before his death, and this was reported in a press release from PEER to MUFON (I wrote that press release myself), but he continued to speak and write on the subject as well as to consult with the experiencers who saw him long-term until his death in 2004.
